Sambar Rice / Bisibelabath



Preparation Time : 15 - 20 mins
Cooking Time : 20 mins
Serves : 2

Ingredients:

Rice - 1 Cup
Toor Dal - 1/2 Cup
Cut Onion - 1/4 Cup
Cut Tomato - 1/4 Cup
Garlic Peeled Cloves - 4 Cloves
Tamarind Water - 1 Cup
Jeera Seeds - 1/2 tsp
Dry Red Chili - 2 nos
Cut Vegetables Mixed (carrot,drumstick,potato,green beans,radish,brinjal)
Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
Chili Powder - 1 tsp
Coriander Powder - 2 tsp
Sambar Powder - 1 1/2 tsp
Salt
oil
ghee
Asafoetida

For Seasoning:

Ghee
Mustard Seeds
Cut pearl onions or big onions
Curry leaves
urad dal
Dry Red Chili
Sambar Powder

Method:

Step 1: Soak rice and dal for 30 mins. Soak tamarind in water and extract the water for about 1 cup, Cut the vegetables.












Step 2: In pressure cooker add oil, ghee, jeera seeds, dry red chili, asafoetida to splutter. Then add onion, tomato, garlic and saute well. Add the cut vegetables, add the soaked rice, toor dal, and water, Then add chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, sambar powder and salt. Close the cooker and allow the rice to be half cooked.

Note:The water measurement is as per how you use when you cook boiled rice , i used to add 3 cup of water and one cup tamarind extract additionally.


 

Step 3:Add the tamarind extract 1 cup with the half cooked rice & close the cooker. Wait for whistles.

Note:Whistles are as normal as you cook for the boiled rice.













Step 4: Once the rice is cooked, smash it well with the spoon , In a small pan, add ghee, mustard seeds, cut onions, curry leaves, urad dal, dry red chili and 1/2 tsp of sambar powder . Allow to splutter, pour it on the sambar rice and mix well.

Serve hot with frymes :)
